Attorney James Koday focuses his practice on estate tax planning, succession planning, estate administration, and mediation. Specifically, he counsels on sophisticated transfer tax minimization strategies, practical succession plans for business owners, general and complex business matters, and efficient and cost-effective estate administration. As an Indiana registered mediator, he also mediates will and trust disputes to avoid or end costly litigation.
Jim is board certified in Indiana in Trusts and Estates. He is a member of the Investment Committee for the Indiana State Bar Association and he has served as a director of the Indiana Bar Foundation, Indiana Continuing Legal Education Foundation (ICLEF), the Fort Wayne Estate Planning Council, and the Board of Governors of the Indiana State Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Jim is also an AV® Preeminent™ rated attorney based on Martindale Hubbell's peer review ratings. He has been honored with many recognitions, including Best Lawyers in America®, Best Lawyers® "Lawyer of the Year" in 2014, 2016 and 2019, Super Lawyers®, and "Top Lawyers" in Fort Wayne Monthly, all in Trusts and Estates.
An Indiana University graduate, Jim earned his A.B., as well as his J.D., cum laude, at Bloomington. He has presented on a number of estate planning, trust and estate, and tax topics for ICLEF and other organizations. Jim is licensed in Indiana and Florida and admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court.
