Martell Joins the Business Law Team
Barrett McNagny LLP is pleased to announce that Jordan Martell has joined the firm, bringing nearly 20 years of experience advising some of the nation's leading insurance and financial services organizations on complex legal, regulatory, governance, and risk management matters. He will focus his practice on advising businesses and insurers on complex legal and regulatory matters, risk management, compliance, corporate governance, technology-related legal issues, and strategic business transactions.
Throughout his career, Mr. Martell has served in legal leadership roles for major insurers with billions of dollars in assets and operations spanning the United States. Most recently, he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary fora property and casualty insurer and reinsurer with more than $2 billion in assets. In that role, he led the company's legal, compliance, and corporate governance functions, advising strategic transactions, reinsurance arrangements, regulatory compliance, corporate development initiatives, and high-exposure insurance litigation.
Mr. Martell’s extensive insurance industry also includes serving as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Pacific Life, a Fortune 500 insurance and reinsurance company with more than $200 billion in assets where he provided strategic legal counsel across a wide range of insurance industry matters, including reinsurance, corporate transactions, privacy and cybersecurity, enterprise risk management, and emerging technologies. He also advised executive leadership on the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence and other innovative business solutions. He also served as Vice President for Thrivent Financial, a Fortune 500 financial services company, where he provided legal advice for marketing, intellectual property, member dispute resolution, and innovation.
In addition to his corporate leadership experience, Mr. Martell has been active in the legal field, serving several years as chair of the Innovation Sub-Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers, helping shape industry approaches to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and regulatory developments. He also serves on the board of Ohio Legal Help which leverages technology and innovation to improve justice and fairness for all Ohioans and previously served on the Board of Community Legal Aid SoCal and chaired the Minnesota Supreme Court's Access to Justice Digital Platform Committee.
Mr. Martell earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a Dean's Scholar and contributing editor of the Journal of Law Reform. He also holds master's degrees in Ancient Greek and Latin from the University of Michigan and earned his bachelor's degree with highest honors from the University of Florida.
